phpBB Discussion • My experience with CloudFlare and phpBB

I wanted to share my experience with CloudFlare, which I've been using for two years. On this board, there are several complaints about CloudFlare affecting phpBB's functionality, and I don't doubt their validity. However, my usage of CloudFlare is a bit different. I've set a page rule that stops CloudFlare from caching anything on my phpBB board. You might wonder, is it still beneficial to use CloudFlare then? Absolutely! This approach lets you leverage their bot and DDoS protection, which often exceeds what your hosting provider can offer.

There's an additional perk if your website includes more than just a phpBB board, like in my case. My site is a WordPress website at www.mydomain.com, with a phpBB forum at www.mydomain.com/forums. By configuring CloudFlare to bypass cache for the '/forums' directory, I can cache and accelerate the WordPress content on the main site while still enjoying CloudFlare's security features for the whole website (incl. forums), without interfering with phpBB. I'm using the free plan and the only minor issue I've encountered is one that I've mentioned in another topic. However, it's worth noting that my forum is relatively small, with 10,000 posts and 2,000 members.

AMA ;)
